Using Numicon and other Concrete Resources

The training will explore how different manipulatives (Numicon, Multilink cubes, counters, bead strings, Cuisenaire rods, counting sticks, place value cards, hundred squares, digit cards, dice, dominoes) can support conceptual understanding in the primary classroom as well as being developed to be used as a reasoning tool.

Getting to Grips with Mathematics in Y3&4

This online Zoom course will explore key mathematics and pedagogical ideas for years 3 and 4, underpinned by the aims of the national curriculum and the five big ideas of teaching for mastery.

In particular, the training will focus on considering the big idea of equivalence and how representations that look different can all be linked to the same underlying mathematical idea to support mental calculation.

Getting to Grips with Y2 Mathematics

Year 2 is a key year for assessment in the primary curriculum and builds on much of the early number work experienced in Reception and Y1.

This online Zoom course explores the curriculum content of Y2 as well as the assessment of some of the trickier statements from end of KS1 TAFs.

This training session is suitable for Subject Leads of Mathematics looking to fully understand the Y2 curriculum and end of KS1 assessment as well as new or experienced teachers of Y2 looking to develop and strengthen their practice.

In particular, the training will focus on supporting children to develop a conceptual understanding of fractions and decimals and consider manipulatives that can be used to further strengthen understanding. This is an important topic which connects with children’s understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages and multiplicative thinking.
